IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Matt Gatens scored 22 points Saturday as Iowa beat IPFW 82-72.
Bryce Cartwright and Zach McCabe each scored 12 points for the Hawkeyes (4-2), who had 33 points off turnovers.
Frank Gaines scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting to lead IPFW (2-2). Marion Hines scored 13 points and Trey McCorkle added 12 for the Mastodons.
The Hawkeyes came through in a sloppy game to snap a two-game losing streak. The teams combined for 39 turnovers and 43 fouls.
Iowa led by 10 points at halftime, but IPFW stayed with the Hawkeyes for most of the second half. The Mastodons cut the deficit to 73-69 with 2:15 left, but Iowa's McCabe and Devyn Marble answered with consecutive baskets to secure the win.
