New Jersey Tech vs Georgetown

Georgetown 84, NJIT 44

WASHINGTON (AP) - Hollis Thompson scored 20 points, Mikael Hopkins had 12, and Jason Clark added 10 to lead Georgetown to its fifth straight win, 84-44 over overmatched NJIT on Saturday.

The Hoyas (7-1) raced to a 16-2 point lead in the game's first 5 1/2 minutes, as Thompson hit three 3-pointers.

The Highlanders (3-4), who have never played a ranked team in six seasons in Division I, made it somewhat respectable for at least a few moments, outscoring Georgetown 19-14 to make it 30-21 with 4:38 to play in the first half.

The Hoyas scored the last four points of the first half to lead 42-28. Georgetown came out roaring in the second half, scoring the first 18 points - 11 by Thompson on three more 3-pointers and a layup to conclude the 22-0 run.

Georgetown led 60-28 before NJIT scored its first points of the second half with 13:44 remaining.

The Highlanders, who missed their first 12 field goals of the second half, shot just 27.3 percent in the game. NJIT was led by Ryan Woods with 16 and Isiah Wilkerson's 15. The Highlanders were outscored 42-15 in the second half and outrebounded 48-23 in the game.

Hoyas coach John Thompson III removed his starters after the initial second half run.

Georgetown, which has beaten two ranked teams, No. 22 Memphis and No. 12 Alabama in the last two weeks, will almost certainly be included in the top 25 when it's released on Monday.

With only games against local schools Howard and American between now and Dec. 22 when they again pay Memphis, the odds are they'll be ranked for at least a few weeks.
