WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Kendall Anthony came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points as Richmond beat Wake Forest 70-62 on Saturday.

Anthony, a 5-foot-8, 140-pound freshman, was 6 of 11 from the field with two 3-pointers, and 7 of 9 from the free-throw line. He had a key 3-pointer with 2:32 left to help fight off a Wake Forest rally.

The Spiders held a 31-22 lead at halftime and led by as many as 23 with 11:34 remaining, thanks to a 16-3 spurt early in the second half. The Spiders scored on nine of their first 10 possessions of the second half.

But the Deacons fought back and got as close as five points at 65-60 in the final minute. But Anthony hit two free throws and Cedrick Lindsay hit three more to end the comeback.

It marked the second straight year that Richmond (6-2) has beaten Wake Forest (5-3). The Spiders won 90-74 in Richmond last season.

Richmond also got 15 points and seven assists from Cedrick Lindsay, and 12 points from Derrick Williams. Darrius Garrett had nine points and five blocked shots.

The Spiders shot 48.9 percent from the field, including 58.8 percent in the second half.

Richmond, playing the fourth game of a five-game road trip, had also won two straight and was coming off a 92-61 win at William & Mary.
