JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Brian Williams and Nick Cook scored 18 points each as Jacksonville State staved off an upset bid by NAIA opponent Reinhardt to win 81-75 Monday night.
The Gamecocks (4-8), who had lost six of their previous seven games, led by as many as 13 points in the first half but were ahead by just two, 70-68, with 6:01 remaining after a 12-4 Reinhardt run.
A jumper by Williams and a layup by Rinaldo Mafra increased Jacksonville State's lead to 74-68, and after two free throws by Cook, Stephen Hall's dunk capped an 8-0 run that made it 78-68 with 1:41 to play.
Ishmael John scored 22 points to pace the Eagles, who counted the game as an exhibition. They trailed 25-12 with 11:18 left in the first half but cut their deficit to 44-40 at halftime.
Ronnie Boggs added 11 points for Jacksonville State, and Cook grabbed 10 rebounds.
