WASHINGTON (AP) - Cameron Moore scored 19 points, grabbed a school-record 24 rebounds as Alabama-Birmingham took control with a 17-1 first half run and held on for a 56-49 win over George Washington on Wednesday night.
Jordan Swing scored 13 points and Preston Purifoy added 11 for the Blazers (4-7). Moore's game-high rebound total was the same as the entire George Washington team, as UAB finished with 39 boards overall.
Lasan Kromah scored 10 of his team-high 15 points in the second half and set a school record with nine steals for the Colonials (4-8). George Washington was held for 13:30 without a field goal in the first half, though, and shot 34.5 percent (19 of 55) for the game, but rallied behind their defensive pressure.
Kromah's 3-pointer with 17 seconds left cut the lead to 52-49, but the Blazers closed the scoring with four straight free throws.
