RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - Jaron Jones scored 19 points and Eastern Kentucky scored 12 consecutive points late in the game to overtake Austin Peay 67-65 on Thursday night.
The Colonels (8-6, 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference) trailed 63-55 with 3:28 left after TyShwan Edmondson hit a pair of free throws for the Governors (3-11, 0-1).
A jumper by D'Mitri Riggs 16 seconds later started the decisive run for Eastern Kentucky, in which Riggs and Joshua Jones scored four points each and Austin Peay missed four shots and turned the ball over four times. A tip by Will Triggs at the buzzer ended the Governors' drought.
Eastern Kentucky turned the ball over just eight times, while Austin Peay committed 17 turnovers. That helped the Colonels overcome the Governors' 43-28 advantage in rebounding.
Edmondson finished with 18 points for Austin Peay, Josh Terry had 15 and John Fraley had 15 points and 14 rebounds.
