MACON, Ga. (AP) - Justin Cecil scored 21 of his career-high 24 points in the first half as Mercer cruised to a 76-54 win over Florida Gulf Coast on Monday night.
The Bears (10-6, 2-1 Atlantic Sun Conference) reached 10 wins earlier than any other squad in school history, according to the calendar. Previously, Jan. 12 was the soonest Mercer had posted its 10th win (1973-74 and 1984-85).
However, the 2004-05 Bears managed their 10th win in only 14 games, compared to 16 for this year's team.
Mercer had seven of its eight blocked shots in the first half en route to a 43-23 lead at the break.
The Bears took their biggest lead at 74-44 with 3:19 remaining and finished with 22 assists on 29 baskets.
Mercer is 7-0 when holding its opponents under 60 points in a game.
Bernard Thompson and Christophe Varidel led the Eagles (5-8, 1-2) with 13 points apiece.
