AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Mitchell Watt scored 22 points and Tony Watson added 14 as Buffalo beat Akron 74-70 on Wednesday night, sweeping the season series against the Zips for only the second time in school history.
Watts, who is shooting 65 percent from the field over the past five games, finished 11 for 15 from the floor and pulled down six rebounds.
Buffalo (18-9, 11-4 Mid-American Conference) led 68-62 before the Zips cut the deficit to 68-67 with 1:07 left to play. However, Watson converted four free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the win for the Bulls.
Buffalo shot 52 percent (29 of 56) from the field, compared to 44 percent (24 of 54) for Akron (20-10, 12-3), and scored 15 second-chance points.
Alex Abreu led five Akron players in double figures with 18. Akron has lost three of its past four after winning eight straight.
