Harvard vs Boston College

Harvard 79, Boston College 63

  •

BOSTON (AP) - Siyani Chambers matched a career high with 21 points and Wesley Saunders added 18 on Tuesday night to lead Harvard to a 79-63 victory over Boston College - the Crimson's fifth consecutive victory over its crosstown, power-conference rival.

Chambers scored eight points during a 15-1 run early in the second half that turned a six-point lead into a 57-37 advantage with 12 1/2 minutes to play.

Ryan Anderson scored 23 with seven rebounds for Boston College (3-5), which was without starting center Dennis Clifford, who sat on the bench with his right foot in a boot.

Andrew Van Nest, who played for Harvard (4-3) as an undergraduate but is now at BC for graduate school, scored four points for the Eagles against his former team.

It's the fifth consecutive season Harvard has beaten Boston College and the second year in a row that the Crimson have blown out the Eagles, an Atlantic Coast Conference school with a respectable history of NCAA appearances.

Harvard hadn't been to the tournament since 1946 and had never won the Ivy League title before sharing it in 2011 and winning it outright last season. But the Crimson lost their co-captains before the start of the season to an academic cheating scandal, and this year's roster was supposed to be less threatening.

It was 42-36 when Chambers drove to the basket for a score to start the 15-1 run that lasted 4:23. He finished it up with a 3-pointer and then a three-point play that gave the Crimson the 57-37 lead.
