BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Andre Stringer made the most of his first start of the season and poured in 13 of his season-high 18 points in the first half to vault LSU to an 80-67 win over Chattanooga on Tuesday night.
Johnny O'Bryant III also tallied his third straight double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers. O'Bryant III also went 7 of 14 shooting and became the first LSU player to piece together three consecutive double-doubles since Storm Warren to start the 2010-11 season.
LSU's Corban Collins chipped in a career-best with 11 points and three assists to give the Tigers three players in double figures.
Chattanooga (2-7) was paced by Z. Mason's 22 points. Ronrico White and Gee McGhee added 17 and 10 points, respectively, for the Mocs.
LSU (6-0), which entered the night as one of 14 undefeated teams in the nation, has won all six of its games under first-year coach Johnny Jones. The last time the Tigers opened the season with a 6-0 mark was during the 2008-09 season when the program won its last Southeastern Conference regular-season championship.
LSU, playing a more up-tempo style under Jones, broke the 70-point barrier for the sixth consecutive game after topping 70 points just nine times last season under former head coach Trent Johnson.
Trailing 23-20 at the 9:35 mark of the first half, LSU ripped off 22 of the stanza's final 29 points to take a 42-30 advantage into intermission. The Tigers limited Chattanooga (2-7) to a pair of field goals during the stretch.
The Mocs hit 9 of 15 to start the second half and pulled within 55-53 on a Mason 3-pointer with 11:30 left.
On LSU's next possession, Stringer knocked down a deep 3-pointer. The basket sparked a 19-4 run. A Collins layup gave the Tigers their largest lead, 74-57 with 3:49 remaining.
