NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Robert Covington posted a career-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds en route to his fourth double-double of the season in Tennessee State's 79-39 win over Division-II program LeMoyne-Owen.
Kellen Thornton converted 7 of 9 shots to add 17 points.
Covington made 9 of 17 shots from the field and hit 10 of 11 free throws for Tennessee State (5-6), which made 20 of 29 attempts from the line and won its fourth game in its last five matchups.
Tennessee State took a 32-21 lead into halftime and outscored LeMoyne-Owen 47-18 in the second half. The Tigers shot 53.6 percent (15 of 28) in the second half while holding the Wizards (2-5) to 23.3 percent (7 of 30) during the frame.
The Tigers dominated the boards 50-31 and scored 25 second-chance points on the strength of 18 offensive rebounds.
Edwin Shorter led LeMoyne-Owen with 10 points.
