KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - In a game between two struggling teams, IPFW didn't struggle as much and emerged with a 65-60 over UMKC on Thursday night.

IPFW (11-16, 4-9 Summit) got 16 points from Frank Gaines, 12 points from Joe Reed and 11 points from Mario Hines.

Kansas City (7-20, 4-9) got 19 points and 10 rebounds from Fred Chatmon. It was his fourth double-double of the season. Estan Tyler finished with 15 points.

Kansas City had a 30-24 scoring advantage off the bench and 13-6 edge in second-chance points.

IPFW shot 50 percent from the floor, but managed just 59 percent from the free-throw line. Kansas City made just 4 of 24 attempts from 3-point range and just 8 of 16 free throws.
