BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Malcolm Miller made five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points to lift Southern University over Alcorn State 61-48 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup Saturday.
Javon Mitchell had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Yondarius Johnson added 11 points for Southern (20-8, 14-2), which posted 20 wins for the first time since 1998-1999, and finished undefeated at home for the first time since 2005-2006.
On top 46-44 with 5 minutes to play, Southern pulled away with a 13 unanswered points to take a 59-44 lead with just 1:01 remaining. Miller sparked the run with back-to-back 3-pointers.
After shooting 50 percent (12 of 24) in the first half, Alcorn State was held to just 23.5 percent (4 of 17) after intermission.
The Tigers scored 19 points off 23 Braves' turnovers.
Marquiz Baker finished with 15 points for Alcorn State (9-22, 7-9), which has now lost five straight games.
