BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) Jeremy Hollowell scored 16 points, and Noah Vonleh finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds in his college debut Friday as Indiana overwhelmed Chicago State 100-72.

The Hoosiers (1-0) won their 16th consecutive season-opener and their 29th straight home opener, though this time they did it with a completely revamped lineup. After losing four 1,000-point scorers from last season, coach Tom Crean started two freshmen, two sophomores and senior Will Sheehey.

Indiana took control by ending the first half on an 8-0 run and starting the second half on an 8-1 spurt to make it 55-29.

The Cougars (0-1), playing their first season in the Western Athletic Conference, were led by Clarke Rosenberg with 27 points and Eddie Denard with 10.

Indiana set a school record by making 45 free throws.

Even with all the new faces in all those new places, the results were essentially the same. The Hoosiers won their last two openers 97-54 and 96-66.

They just adjusted the script.

Without Cody Zeller to patrol the middle, Indiana repeatedly attacked the basket, dominated the glass and relied on free-throw shooting to seize control. Eventually, It worked.

Less than eight minutes into the game, the Hoosiers led just 15-10. Then Indiana got over the first-game jitters, settled down and locked in.

The Hoosiers started to pull away with a 10-2 first-half spurt and followed that with an 8-2 run to make it 39-21 with 5:09 left in the half. Chicago State answered with seven straight points, all from Rosenberg.

But that's when the Hoosiers poured it on.

Kevin ''Yogi'' Ferrell scored the final four points in the half-ending run that made it 47-29, and the Hoosiers extended the margin to 55-29 early in the second half. Chicago State never got closer than 19 again.

Defensively, the Hoosiers were suffocating. In addition to having 13 blocks, one short of the school record set at Penn State in 2000, they also limited the Cougars to 25.9 percent shooting from the field.

Plus, Indiana took advantage of Chicago State's aggressive play, converting the continual fouls into 45 of 55 shooting from the free-throw line. The 45 free throws made broke the previous school record of 43, first set against Michigan in 1955 and matched against Michigan in 1997.

And, like last season, the Hoosiers spread the wealth. Ferrell had 11 points, while Sheehey had 10 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Devin Davis also had 10 points and nine rebounds and Troy Williams, another freshman, finished with 13 points.
