Miami (Ohio) vs Arizona State

Sun Devils roll over Redhawks 90-54

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) Jahii Carson had 18 points and matched a career high with eight assists, Jermaine Marshall added 18 points, and Arizona State raced off to a 90-54 rout over Miami of Ohio Tuesday night.

Arizona State (2-0) got off to a sluggish start, but quickly turned it into a rout with a big run midway through the first half. The Sun Devils never gave the Redhawks a chance at the comeback, hitting 16 of 31 3-pointers while shooting 55 percent.

Jordan Bachynski had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Carson added four rebounds for Arizona State.

Miami (0-2) fell behind big for the second straight game, but were unable to rally this time after making 4 of 20 from 3-point range and shooting 33 percent overall.

Reggie Johnson had 24 points to lead Miami, which finishes off a difficult opening stretch of the season at Xavier next week.

Arizona State won its opener easily, rolling past over Maryland Baltimore-County 96-61 behind 19 points each from Carson and (Jermaine) Marshall.

Miami started a difficult three-game stretch to open the season at No. 21 Notre Dame and held up fairly well, rallying from a 16-point deficit to lose 74-62.

The Redhawks found themselves in another big hole against Arizona State.

After a clanking start, the Sun Devils started to find the range, hitting 3-pointers in transition and scoring inside against the Redhawks. Led by Marshall, Arizona State hit 10 of 14 shots during a 20-2 run that put the Sun Devils up 31-13.

The Sun Devils hit 16 of 32 shots in the first half and led 41-18 after Carson hit a long 3-pointer just before the buzzer.

Miami, after shooting well early, struggled against Arizona State's aggressive defense, making 7 of 26 shots - 1 of 10 from 3-point range - while scoring nine points over the final 15 minutes.

Marshall and Carson were the catalysts for the Sun Devils.

Marshall was Penn State's second-leading scorer last season and was able to play this season for Arizona State after completing his graduation requirements.

The 6-foot-4 guard was expected to give the Sun Devils a veteran boost and be a nice compliment to Carson in his final season in the desert.

Marshall has been good the first two games, providing a good second scoring option with Carson and providing plenty of hustle plays.

Marshall had eight points during Arizona State's big first-half run and followed one basket by taking a charge at the other end. He had 12 points by halftime and quashed a small run by Miami in the second half with a 3-pointer from the corner.

Carson did what he does best, dropping in 3-pointers and getting into the lane to score on difficult layups or kick out to open teammates.

He opened the game with a long 3-pointer and his penetration gave the Redhawks all kinds of trouble, leaving Sun Devils' shooters open along the perimeter.

Arizona State made most of them and walked away with its second straight rout to open the season.
