Eastern Washington vs Washington

Willliams-Goss, Washington beat E Washington 92-80

Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) Nigel Williams-Goss scored 22 points and sparked a key run to lead Washington in a 92-80 comeback win against Eastern Washington.

Eastern Washington jumped out to an early double-digit lead, controlled the first half and led for most of the game, but Washington (2-1) overpowered the Eagles in the second half.

Tyler Harvey scored a career-high 28 points for Eastern Washington (1-1), 20 in the first half. Harvey shot 7 for 13 on 3-pointers and 10 of 22 from the field.

Perris Blackwell scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and C.J. Wilcox added 15 points and eight boards for Washington, which was coming off Thursday's 86-72 loss at home to UC Irvine.

EWU led 55-43 with 17 1/2 minutes left in the game. It would prove to be their largest lead and Washington steadily chipped away - primarily at the free throw line. The Huskies scored 12 straight points - Eastern Washington twice missed the front end of a one-and-and during the run - to pull ahead. Williams-Goss scored seven of the 12 points, including a three-point play to give Washington a 75-70 lead with 7 1/2 minutes left.

The Huskies made sure Eastern Washington didn't have a chance to regain momentum and pulled away down the stretch.

Although at times early on it seemed like the Eagles were the stronger team, Washington's advantage showed up as they took over late. The two teams each shot 11 free throws in the first half, but UW was far more aggressive in the second.

Washington made 31 of 34 free throws in the game as several Eagles ended up in foul trouble, compared to an 11 of 23 showing for EWU.

The Huskies extended their winning streak against Eastern Washington to eight. The Eagles have won once in 13 tries against Washington, a 62-58 victory in 2002.

EWU built a double-digit lead early, going on a 13-2 run to take an 18-8 lead about six minutes into the game and held off several UW runs. With about four minutes to play in the first half, Eastern Washington extended the lead to 11 on a four-point play by Harvey followed by Thomas Reuter's 3-pointer, and the Eagles held a 48-39 edge at halftime.
