FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Jarvis Ray had a career-high 18 points and TCU got its first victory of the season, holding on to beat road-weary Abilene Christian 71-64 Tuesday night.

Kyan Anderson was scoreless for the Horned Frogs (1-2) until his floater with 3:47 left broke the final tie, making it 60-58 after the Wildcats had come back from a 14-point deficit. Anderson added two free throws a half-minute later.

Abilene Christian (0-5) was playing on the road for the fifth time in 11 days to open their first season after making the transition to NCAA Division I status from Division II. Plus, the Wildcats were also coming off the worst lost in program history, 103-41 at Iowa on Sunday.

Brandon Parrish added 15 points and Christian Gore 14 for TCU, who was playing its first game since losing 82-79 to Longwood at home a week earlier.

Parker Wentz had 14 points to lead four ACU players in double figures.

Ray had a powerful dunk and a 3-pointer on consecutive possessions to cap a 13-2 run, giving TCU a 45-31 lead early in the second half.

But ACU fought back and got tied the game at 58 when Cooke swished a 3-pointer from the right wing in front of his exhilarated teammates on the bench. The Wildcats couldn't get closer and Anderson then put TCU ahead to stay.

Abilene Christian got off a fast start, making its first four 3-pointers, going ahead 14-10 on Cooke's long shot just 5 minutes into the game. But TCU led 15-14 after Ray scored three times in a span of 67 seconds, with a free throw, a strong inside basket and a jumper.

When Hawkins made a long jumper for the Wildcats with just over 3 minutes left in the half, they had a 23-22 lead - their last of the game.

Gore had just made a tying free throw for TCU when a technical foul was called on ACU coach Joe Golding. Gore then sank two more free throws, and TCU's lead was up to 27-23 when Michael Williams drove for a reverse layup.

Williams' 3-pointer made it 32-26, the last points for TCU before halftime, when they led by three.

Parrish had two layups as the Horned Frogs scored the first eight points after halftime. Hill had a steal that he passed to Ray for a dunk, then Hill had a rebound of a missed shot that led to Ray's 3-pointer.

The Wildcats were playing about 150 miles from their campus, where they won't play until their 11th game this season. They had a representative group of fans in three of the fuller sections of seats Daniel Meyer Coliseum, which is undergoing an extensive renovation after this season.
