MALIBU, Calif. (AP) Malcolm Brooks scored 20 of his career-high 24 points in the second half to lead Pepperdine past BYU 80-74 Monday night.

The Waves (9-5, 2-0 West Coast Conference) beat the Cougars for the first time in five tries since BYU joined the WCC. The loss was the fourth in a row for BYU, its first such streak since coach Dave Rose took the reins of the program in 2003.

Pepperdine took a 40-28 lead into halftime and led by as many as 13 in the second half.

BYU (8-7, 0-2) used a 13-3 run to pull within three, 68-65, with 2:55 to go, but Brooks answered with one of his six 3-pointers and the Waves made 5 of 6 free throws in the final 43 seconds to seal the victory.

Stacy Davis finished with 12 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks for Pepperdine.

Tyler Haws scored 20 in the loss.
