BOONE, N.C. (AP) Kyle Cain had 12 points and 14 rebounds and UNC-Greensboro ran away from Appalachian State in the second half for a 66-60 win on Thursday night.
After trailing 30-29 at halftime, UNCG (9-9, 2-1 Southern Conference) opened the second on a 13-6 run to take the lead for good. The Spartans had their biggest lead at 61-50 when Cain's layup capped an 8-2 run with 1:28 to play.
Appalachian State (4-11, 0-2) went on an 11-2 run to finish the first half. They fell behind early in the second but charged back to within 42-41 on Mike Neal's 3-pointer. Jordan Potts answered with four straight points to put UNCG back in control.
Nicholas Paulos and Tevon Saddler had 13 points each to lead UNCG in scoring.
Jay Canty led Appalachian State with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals. Tevin Baskin and Tab Hamilton added 13 points each.
