Texas A&M-Corpus Christi overwhelms Lamar 58-35

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) Jeff Beverly scored 11 points and Rashawn Thomas and Jake Kocher had 10 apiece as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi overwhelmed Lamar 58-35 Saturday night.

A&M-CC (10-13, 7-3 Southland Conference) held the Cardinals to just 11 points in the first half, setting a school record for lowest points allowed in a game at 35.

Lamar (3-19, 2-8) was just 4 of 28 from the field in the first half, making only 30 percent for the game. The Islanders made 23 of 45 field goal attempts. The Islanders also pulled down 42 rebounds, compared to 20 for Lamar.

The Cardinals made a run early in the second half to close the gap to 28-25 with 15:45 remaining. Kocher answered with a 3-point shot, Johnathan Jordan added a layup, Brandon Pye made two jump shots and Kocher added a jump shot and a layup to stretch the lead to 41-27 with 10:57 remaining.
