Vermont routs cold-shooting New Hampshire 79-44

DURHAM, N.H. (AP) Clancy Rugg was perfect from the free throw line in 10 attempts and scored 18 points to lead Vermont to an easy win at New Hampshire, 79-44 Wednesday night.

The win was the seventh straight for Vermont (18-9, 12-1) and the Catamounts are a game ahead of Stony Brook atop the America East Conference standings. Vermont plays host to Hartford Sunday and Stony Brook Thursday.

The Catamounts held New Hampshire to just 16 first-half points, building a 26-point lead at intermission and led by as many as 37 points in the second half.

Candon Rusin and Luke Apfeld scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Vermont, which shot 47 percent from the field (24 of 51) and converted 27 of 31 free throws.

John Edwards had nine points to lead New Hampshire (6-20, 4-9), which did not have a scorer reach double figures and shot a collective 13 of 57.
