  •

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) Desi Washington scored 18 points, including the final go-ahead basket late in the second half, to help lift St. Peter's to a 71-67 victory over Niagara on Sunday.

Following several rapid lead changes, St. Peter's (13-16, 9-11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) reclaimed the advantage for good after Chris Burke tied the game at 59 with a layup. Washington then sank the go-ahead free throws that made it 61-59 with 4:15 to play. The Peacocks padded and protected the lead down the stretch.

Marvin Dominique contributed 17 points and Burke finished with 12 for the Peacocks, who closed out the regular season with four straight wins. Both teams shot comparably from the field but St. Peter's got more points from the penalty stripe, sinking 19 of 27.

Niagara (6-25, 3-17) was paced by Antoine Mason, who scored 20 points. Marvin Jordan added 17 for the Purple Eagles and Wesley Myers 11.
