ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) Marcus Romain scored 19 of his 28 points in the second half, grabbed 10 rebounds and Mississippi Valley State snapped a 15-game losing streak with a 73-70 win over Alabama State on Monday night.

Trailing by two at the break, Mississippi Valley State (1-15, 1-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) shot 64 percent in the second half and led by as much as 12 before the Hornets clawed back in the final minutes.

Alabama State used a 10-1 run capped by Reginald Gee's jumper to cut the deficit to 69-66 with 1:39 left but MVSU protected the margin down the stretch.

Last year, the Delta Devils lost 14 straight before getting their first win.

Romain hit 11 of his 16 shots from the field and Kylan Phillips added 12 points with six rebounds for the Delta Devils.

Gee had 28 points for Alabama State (3-13, 1-3), which lost its third straight. Demetruis Houston added 12 points and 11 rebounds, Tony Armstrong got 11 points and Amir Warnock 10.
