Shining Moments

    1) The tournament was the first true ďFinal Four,Ē with all four teams playing at the same site. Prior to 1952, only the championship and third-place games were held at the same site. 2) Clyde Lovelette set a championship game record with 33 points against St. Johnís, helping Phog Allen win his first national championship. Lovelette was a monster throughout the tournament, averaging 35.3 points in four games. 3) Kentucky went into the tournament as the No. 1 team in the country, but St. Johnís knocked the Wildcats out in the regional final behind 33 points from Bob Zawoluk. Earlier in the season, Kentucky had defeated St. Johnís by 41.
