1967 NCAA Tournament | Bracket

Champion: UCLA

Most Outstanding Player: Lew Alcindor, UCLA

Final Four: UCLA, Dayton, Houston, North Carolina

Shining Moments

  • This was the first of seven consecutive national titles for John Wooden and the UCLA Bruins, the sport's most dominating stretch by any program in its history.
  • It was also the first of three straight Most Outstanding Player Awards for Alcindor, who later changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Alcindor had to sit out his freshman season due to NCAA rules, but averaged 29 points and 15 rebounds in 1967 and led UCLA to a 30-0 mark
  • .
  • Dayton's Don May was terrific in the two games. He had 34 points and 15 rebounds, and most 13 consecutive shots at one point, in the national semifinal victory over North Carolina and finished with 21 points and grabbed 17 boards in the loss to UCLA.
