Shining Moments

  • Cleaves suffered an ankle injury, but still managed to go for 18 points and four assists against Florida in the championship game.
  • Two No. 8 seeds reached the Final Four in Wisconsin and North Carolina. Throw in No. 5 Florida and No. 1 Michigan State, and the combined seed number of 22 was the highest in NCAA tournament history, at the time.
  • Cincinnati was ranked No. 1 for most of the season, but the Bearcats were relegated to a No. 2 seed after star forward Kenyon Martin broke his leg in the Conference USA tournament. Cincinnati ended up getting bounced in the second round by Tulsa.
  • Florida’s Mike Miller hit a leaner at the buzzer of overtime to give Florida a 69-68 win over No. 12 Butler in the first round.
