2004 Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament

75 Years of March Madness (NCAA)

2004 NCAA Tournament | Bracket

Champion: Connecticut

Most Outstanding Player: Emeka Okafor, Connecticut

Final Four:Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Duke, Connecticut

Shining Moments

  • When Okafor played only four minutes in the first half of national semifinal with two fouls, it looked like Duke would win and head to the title game. But the Huskies went on a 12-0 run in the final four minutes – with Okafor scoring all 18 of his points in the second half – to give UConn the win
  • .
  • Saint Joseph’s went into the tournament with just one loss, although the jury was out on how good the Hawks really were. They silenced some doubters, but fell just short of the Final Four. Oklahoma State’s John Lucas hit a 3-pointer with 6.9 seconds left to help the Cowboys advance.
  • Will Bynum hit a layup with just 1.5 seconds left to defeat Oklahoma State in a tight semifinal matchup, giving the Yellow Jackets a chance at a national championship.
  • Syracuse guard Gerry McNamara goes for 43 points and nine 3-pointers in the Orange’s first-round win over BYU.
