2008 Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament

75 Years of March Madness (NCAA)

2008 NCAA Tournament | Bracket

Champion: Kansas

Most Outstanding Player: Mario Chalmers, Kansas

Final Four:Kansas, Memphis, North Carolina, UCLA

Shining Moments

  • This tournament represented the first time all four No. 1 seeds made the Final Four.
  • Mario Chalmers' shot at the buzzer to force overtime in the title game was immediately labeled one of the best shots in NCAA tournament history. If it misses, Memphis (not Kansas) would've won the national title even though it should be noted that the Tigers later vacated the season because of Derrick Rose's fraudulent SAT score.
  • Rose's stats don't officially count, but he was dominant throughout this NCAA tournament while solidifying himself as the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. The Memphis point guard averaged 20.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists in the Tigers' six NCAA tournament games while physically overwhelming (in order) Texas point guard D.J. Augustin, Michigan State point guard Drew Neitzel and UCLA point guard Darren Collison.
