2010 Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament

75 Years of March Madness (NCAA)

2010 NCAA Tournament | Bracket

Champion: Duke

Most Outstanding Player: Kyle Singler, Duke

Final Four:Duke, Butler, West Virginia, Michigan State

Shining Moments

  • After the ultimate Cinderella run to the national title game, Butler falls just short when Gordon Hayward’s half-court shot hits the rim at the buzzer. Duke held on to win 61-59.
  • West Virginia coach Bob Huggins hugging Da’Sean Butler during the national semifinal loss to Duke. Butler had just suffered a knee injury, and was lying on the court in agony. Huggins went over to Butler, embracing him and whispering in his ear. It was a special moment.
  • The instant classic that was Kansas State vs. Xavier, a double-overtime thriller in the regional semifinals. It was simply big shot after big shot. Jacob Pullen and Kansas State pulled it out, 101-96, but Jordan Crawford’s deep 3-pointer to tie the game in the first overtime was one of the best shots of the tournament.
  • Thirty-five seconds left, a one-point lead against the No. 1 seed, and a 2-on-1 fast break. So what did Northern Iowa’s Ali Farokhmanesh do? Pulled up from 21 feet and nailed a game-clinching 3-pointer.
  • Some people called it the best first round in NCAA tournament history. There were too game-winners to list here, with Ish Smith, Quincy Pondexter, Danero Thomas all making buzzer-beating highlights.
