2012 Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament

75 Years of March Madness (NCAA)

2012 NCAA Tournament | 2012 Bracket

Champion: Kentucky

Most Outstanding Player: Anthony Davis, Kentucky

Final Four:Kentucky, Kansas, Ohio State, Louisville

Shining Moments

  • John Calipari wins his first national championship. The Wildcats had the most talent in college basketball throughout the season, and they proved it during the NCAA tournament. Led by Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky won its six tourney games by nearly 12 points per contest. Nothing could stop them.
  • Louisville vs. Kentucky is arguably the best rivalry in college basketball Ė and the two faced off in the Final Four. The Wildcats were too good for Louisville in New Orleans, but seeing such a heated rivalry take place on the sportís biggest stage was special.
  • Within hours of each other, two No. 15 seeds had bounced No. 2 seeds. First, Norfolk State upset Missouri in the afternoon. Shortly after, C.J. McCollum and Lehigh shocked the hoops world by knocking out Duke.
  • The First Four is more than an afterthought. Although itís still thought of as something of a preface to the NCAA tournament, 2012ís First Four saw two of the greatest comebacks in tourney history. First, Western Kentucky overcame a 16-point deficit in the final five minutes to beat Mississippi Valley State. Not to be outdone, BYU dug out of a 25-point hole to defeat Iona.
