Notebook: Top-10 prospect Nick King has a top five
HAMPTON, Va. – After leading Memphis YOMCA to the U-16 title at the Peach Jam last summer, Nick King expected the renamed Bluff City Legends to enter the EYBL and start winning.
That didn't work out too well, as the Legends were winless during Session One in Minneapolis, and King averaged fewer than 10 points per game. King turned it around in Virginia, though, averaging 15.4 points in five games.
“Last weekend, I turned my ankle,” King said. “I'm still not 100 percent, but I'm playing through it. I just want to win.”
Memphis, Georgetown, Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Florida, North Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri and Vanderbilt are pursuing King right now. Five schools stand out: North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Memphis and Georgetown.
“I want to go somewhere I fit in,” he said. “Somewhere I can come in and play.”
King, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Memphis East (Tenn.), is ranked No. 9 overall in CBSSports.com's Top 100.
2014 five-star JaQuan Lyle patient with process
Coming into the open period for college coaches, 2014 prospect JaQuan Lyle wasn't trying to prove anything at the EYBL sessions.
He just wanted the competition.
“Just to get a chance to play against great players,” Lyle said. “You can't pay attention to rankings.”
Right now, the 6-foot-4 Lyle has offers from Kansas State, Michigan State, Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Xavier and Louisville. Other schools showing interest include UCLA, Georgetown, Butler, Kentucky and Kansas.
He is going to try and visit Butler on Friday.
“I want a coach that likes to get out and run,” Lyle said. “But I'm taking my time.”
Lyle is ranked No. 14 in CBSSports.com's Top 50 for the class of 2014.
