UNLV adds another piece in top-100 forward Savon Goodman
When will UNLV stop?
The Runnin' Rebels have been as active as any team in the country over the past few months, in terms of adding transfers and newcomers to the 2012-13 roster. From Khem Birch to Anthony Bennett to Roscoe Smith, coach Dave Rice is building a juggernaut in Vegas.
On Friday night, Rice picked up another piece: top-100 forward Savon Goodman.
“He chose UNLV as it fits his desire to get up and down the court,” Constitution (Pa.) coach Rob Moore told SNY.tv. “He is very competitive and plans to fight for playing time from day one. He will be an asset to the UNLV family.”
Rice told Ryan Greene of RunRebs.com, who broke the story, that Goodman will likely redshirt for the upcoming season if Smith, a transfer from Connecticut, is not cleared to play immediately.
“I was very honest through the whole process with Savon about Roscoe Smith,” Rice told Greene. “Savon knows if the waiver is approved, he'll redshirt.”
Goodman, a 6-foot-6 forward, was ranked No. 80 in CBSSports.com's 2012 rankings. He is an extremely athletic prospect who is a menace to deal with in transition. He finishes well at the rim, and is aggressive when driving to the lane. Goodman can also defend multiple positions, and is a solid rebounder at both ends.
