Rashad Vaughn cements spot among top scorers in '14

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

LAS VEGAS – Heading into his sophomore season, Rashad Vaughn was just a name that was beginning to pick up buzz, mainly in the Midwest. Less than a year later, Vaughn is a consensus top-50 prospect in the class of 2014, and has college coaches tracking his every move.

At the Fab 48 in Las Vegas, Vaughn was pitted head-to-head against Robert Hubbs, a star prospect in 2013. Vaughn more than held his own, knocking down at least five 3-pointers in the first half and outscoring Hubbs.

“I just wanted to come out and play,” Vaughn said. “I always want to go at somebody.”

Vaughn, a 6-foot-5 wing from Robbinsdale Cooper (Minn.), is one of the top scorers in the class. He has consistent range on his 3-point shot and is a very solid athlete in the lane. Vaughn also has an effective pull-up game in the mid-range.

His recruitment is wide open right now, but Minnesota, Iowa State, Texas, Syracuse, Tennessee, Baylor, Memphis, Colorado, Maryland and Wisconsin are all in hot pursuit. He might take a trip to Baylor in the near-future.

Vaughn, ranked No. 27 in the class of 2014, doesn't plan on deciding until his senior year.
