Florida State nabs talented shooter Rathan-Mayes

Florida State picked up a commitment from one of the top wings in the country.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound wing, chose the Seminoles over UConn and Illinois.

"I felt comfortable with the staff," Rathan-Mayes told CBSSports.com. "I felt like I had an opportunity to make an immediate impact and play in the best conference in America."

The side note to Rathan-Mayes choosing Leonard Hamilton's program is that his teammate, the top-ranked player in the country, Andrew Wiggins, is basically down to Kentucky and Florida State.

Now the question becomes whether this will help sway Wiggins, a junior who could re-classify into the Class of 2013.

Wiggins' father, Mitchell, and Rathan-Mayes' dad, Tharon, were teammates at Florida State and with the Philadelphia 76ers.

"Everyone thinks he's going to Kentucky," Rathan-Mayes said. "But he's not really focused on recruiting right now. I don't want to get into it too much with him because we're such good friends, but he knows I want him to come to Florida State."
