Strong forward Ishmail Wainright pledges to Baylor

After picking up top-10 recruiting classes the past few seasons, it had been a quiet few months for Scott Drew and Baylor on the recruiting trail. It might start picking up again, though.

Ishmail Wainright committed to the Bears late Thursday night.

The 6-foot-5 small forward chose the Bears over Ohio State, St. John's and Texas. Wainright had taken a trip to Ohio State, and also had visits planned to St. John's and Texas.

Ranked No. 39 in the class of 2013, Wainright has a strong body and contributes in a variety of ways, making an impact at both ends of the floor and on the glass. He injured his left foot over the summer, so he wasn't much of a factor during the July recruiting period. During the summer of 2011, Wainright boosted his stock with an outstanding performance in Las Vegas. He outplayed Jabari Parker in a head-to-head matchup, and made a major move in the rankings. Wainright uses his strength defensively, and can also distribute.

Wainright joins Jonathan Motley in Baylor's 2013 class.
