UCLA receives commitment from four-star guard Zach LaVine

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Over the last couple of months of Zach LaVine's recruitment, as UCLA seemed to establish itself as the favorite, it almost became of an issue of “when?” as opposed to “where?” for LaVine's commitment.

It turned out Wednesday night was decision time for LaVine, who picked Ben Howland's Bruins.

“It was just the right timing,” LaVine told CBSSports.com.

LaVine, a 6-foot-4 prospect from Bothell (Wash.), chose UCLA over Washington, Washington State, Louisville, Arizona and others.

“The family situation,” LaVine said when asked about the main factor in his decision. “It's a home away from home for me.”

He is ranked No. 76 in the class of 2013 by CBSSports.com, but he could move up after a stellar spring performance. After growing about two inches, LaVine is a bonafide combo guard with good range on his jump shot and an ability to get into the lane for points and assists. He is also very long, which makes him an asset at both ends of the floor.

"[I bring] everything and anything, man," LaVine said. "Scoring, athleticism, defense. Everything."

He is UCLA's first commitment in the 2013 class.
