Notebook: Julius Randle trims list to 10

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

We're finally making some process with the top five players in the class of 2013. The Harrison twins said they would be making their decision at the end of October; Aaron Gordon is planning his visits; and Jabari Parker has his list at 10.

On Monday, Julius Randle named his final 10 on Twitter: Texas, Kansas, Baylor, North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina State, Florida, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

Randle, a 6-foot-8 forward from Prestonwood Catholic (Tex.), is ranked among the top five players in the country. He's a powerful lefty who is simply too strong and productive for most opponents. Right now, the only official visit Randle has set is to Florida in the beginning of October. He has played his recruitment fairly close to the vest so far.

Versatile forward Kris Jenkins heading to Villanova

Rumors began surfacing last week that four-star forward Kris Jenkins was getting ready to commit to Villanova. Jenkins made it official on Sunday, pledging to Jay Wright and the Wildcats.

“I just felt like Coach Wright and his staff has presented me with an opportunity and a plan that I couldn't turn down,” Jenkins told the Washington Post. “I'm really excited."

Jenkins took an official visit to Villanova last weekend. He chose the Wildcats over Miami (Fl.), Xavier, Rutgers and Clemson. The 6-foot-5 forward from Gonzaga (D.C.) is ranked No. 74 in CBSSports.com's rankings.

Top-100 Josh Brown recommits to Temple

Josh Brown said on Monday he was heading to Temple -- again.

"I get a chance to be coached by one of the most underrated coaches, coach Fran Dunphy and his staff," Brown said during his announcement on SNY. "And I'm going to be in Philly, a great place to be.”

Brown originally pledged to the Owls last November, but reopened his recruitment in June. He wanted to take a look at some other schools, and Rhode Island, Penn State and Providence were each in the mix for him. The No. 94-ranked Brown is a 6-foot-3 guard from St. Anthony (N.J.).

News and Notes: Fresno State picked up a solid commitment in Paul Watson . . . Chicago-area guard Kyle Davis pledged to Dayton . . . Tre'Shaun Lexing, who impressed us over the summer, is down to four: Washington State, Arizona State, UCLA and Colorado . . . Deion Sanders' new charter school, Prime Prep (Tex.), should be a factor in basketball right off the bat. Emmanuel Mudiay, Jordan Mickey, Karviar Shepherd and others are all reportedly heading there . . . Sam Merrill, a 2014 guard, is off the board to Utah State . . . Athletic big man Romelo Banks committed to North Florida . . According to N.D. Kendrick, Evansville got a late pickup in Lithuanian big man Egidijus Mockevicius . . . Reggie Upshaw to Middle Tennessee . . . Texas native Kade Kager is going to American.
