Arizona makes major pickup in five-star forward Rondae Jefferson

Since Sean Miller arrived at Arizona, the Wildcats have done extremely well along the East Coast. Kevin Parrom and Mark Lyons are both from New York, while Kaleb Tarczewski went to prep school in New England.

Miller and the Wildcats struck again in 2013, as Pennsylvania native Rondae Jefferson made his commitment during an in-home visit on Thursday.

Arizona was thought to be the heavy favorite in his recruitment for the past few months, and an official visit to Tucson last weekend secured his decision. After he returned from the trip, a commitment seemed imminent.

Jefferson, a 6-foot-6 small forward from Chester (Pa.), is ranked No. 16 in the class. Florida and Rutgers were two of the finalists down the stretch, although Texas, Temple, Syracuse and Memphis were also involved.

This is a major addition for Arizona. Jefferson is one of the most versatile players at his position, and is in fact more of a point-forward than strictly a wing forward. He can create plays for his teammates and is also difficult to guard off the dribble. The lefty is simply a playmaker who plays hard the entire game. He needs to work on his perimeter shot but he makes things happen at both ends of the floor.

Parrom, Lyons and forward Solomon Hill are all gone after the coming season, leaving an opening for Jefferson in the lineup. The Wildcats will have plenty of backcourt weapons and a multitude of talented bigs, but there are holes on the wings. Enter Jefferson.

Jefferson is Arizona's second commitment in the class of 2013, joining guard Elliott Pitts. Eric Cooper originally committed for 2013, but it looks like he will end up in the class of 2014. Miller and staff are still gunning for more five-star recruits, namely Aaron Gordon and Keith Frazier.
