Top-100 guard Kameron Williams commits to Ohio State

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Since Marc Loving committed to Ohio State more than two years ago, the Buckeyes have been quiet in the 2013 class. Recently, though, coach Thad Matta and his staff turned up the heat on top-100 guard Kameron Williams.

According to sources, Williams committed to Ohio State on Tuesday.

"It's done," one source told CBSSports.com.

Williams, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Mount St. Joseph (Md.), is ranked No. 86 in the class of 2013. He was one of the most prolific scorers on the AAU circuit this year, leading the EYBL in scoring with 22.2 points per game for Baltimore Elite. He shot 53 percent from the floor and 48 percent from 3-point range.

Williams had an in-home visit with Ohio State last week, and also took an official visit to Columbus this past weekend. He chose the Buckeyes over Miami (Fla.), which was considered the favorite for Williams during the late stages of his recruitment. Ohio State focusing on Williams after Al Freeman chose UCLA ended up being the turning point.

Ohio State doesn't have a pure scoring guard on the roster, with Aaron Craft, Lenzelle Smith, Shannon Scott and Amedeo Della Valle all capable of handling the ball and facilitating. With Williams in tow, the Buckeyes will have someone that knows how to get baskets. He might be somewhat undersized, but Williams has shown the ability to score against any defender.
