No. 34-ranked prospect Tyler Roberson ready to cut list

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

With just days until Tyler Roberson cuts his list from 10 to five, the four-star combo forward is still gathering information. Lots of information.

In the past two weeks, Roberson has hosted Syracuse, Seton Hall, SMU, South Carolina, Alabama and Kentucky on in-home visits -- and he's not done yet. Kansas is set to visit with Roberson on Thursday night, with Florida coming Friday and Villanova and Rutgers giving their pitches on Sunday.

Only then will Roberson make a decision on his five finalists.

"I have a pretty good idea of what five schools I want to cut it down to," Roberson said Thursday afternoon.

Although he is not saying which five schools will make the list, there are certainly some tea leaves from which to gather hints.

Roberson has three official visits set up at this point: SMU on Sept. 27, Syracuse on Oct. 5 and Kansas on Oct. 12. It doesn't look like he plans to cancel those trips either.

"They're most likely going to be in my top-five," Roberson said.

One school that entered the fray recently was Kentucky, which had made Roberson's list of 10 but had never extended a scholarship offer. That offer came earlier this week, when coach John Calipari went to see him at Roselle Catholic (N.J.).

"It was nice," Roberson said. "They were always a top program in the country, so it was exciting."

He also went on to say the Wildcats could get an official visit.

Roberson, a 6-foot-7 prospect who can play both forward positions, is ranked No. 34 in our top 100. He is difficult to guard due to his length and athleticism, and he continues to improve his all-around game. He has extended his range to the point where he can consistently knock down perimeter jumpers, and is also able to post up smaller defenders. Roberson also is aggressive on the glass and can finish at the rim.

Many coaches want him, but he's looking for certain things in his future school.

"I'm going to talk to the coaches to see where I feel comfortable," Roberson said. "A school where I think I would fit in with the way they play. I want to learn a lot about the program."

With plans to cut his list down and three official visits already set up, the talented New Jersey product is clearly making progress in his decision. But he doesn't have a timetable just yet.

"I want to make it by this fall, but it could be the spring if I need a little more time to decide," Roberson said. "I'll know more after Sunday."
