Star point guard Demetrius Jackson pledges to Notre Dame

For the past couple weeks, that's all everyone has been asking about Demetrius Jackson. Given how secretive Jackson has been during the recruiting process, it was difficult to get a read on which direction he was leaning.

On Thursday, we found out: Jackson is headed to Notre Dame, as first reported by Paul Klee of The News-Gazette.

Jackson later announced his decision on ESPNU.

The No. 30-ranked prospect in the class of 2013, Jackson is a 6-foot-1 point guard from Marian (Ind.). A stellar performance during the spring and summer for MBA Select pushed him up in the rankings, all the way to the No. 6 spot among point guards. He has good quickness and strength, which enable him to get into the lane and create plays for himself or teammates. He is a good leader and has a high basketball IQ. Once he fine-tunes his outside jumper, Jackson will be very difficult to contain.

Kansas was also involved down the stretch for Jackson. The Jayhawks have now struck out on three point guard targets in the last three weeks, with Jackson joining Anthony “Cat” Barber (NC State) and Chris Jones (Louisville) as prospects who spurned Kansas.

Jackson, who lives only a short drive from the South Bend campus, should make an immediate impact at Notre Dame, and is the Fighting Irish's highest-rated recruit in years. Coach Mike Brey made Jackson his biggest target in the class of 2013, and that hard work clearly paid off.

Juniors Eric Atkins and Jerian Grant currently man the backcourt for Brey, but Jackson adds a different dimension to the perimeter. Both players can play either backcourt spot, and Jackson can step in to form a potent three-headed attack.

Joining Jackson in Notre Dame's 2013 recruiting class are wings V.J. Beachem and Steve Vasturia. Brey is building a very solid perimeter group.
