Monster pickup for Indiana: No. 7 Noah Vonleh commits

When Noah Vonleh reclassified into 2013 in September, most people expected the top-10 prospect to take his time in recruiting. He still had several schools on his list and was taking his time.

Then late Saturday night came the news from Adam Finkelstein of ESPN.com. Vonleh was headed to Indiana.

“From Day One, Indiana has been recruiting me the hardest,” Vonleh told Finkelstein. “They were just letting me know how they could develop me into the player I want to be at the next level. Their academics are good, they're the No. 1 team in the country and they've got another great class coming in next year.”

Vonleh, the No. 7-ranked prospect in 2013, is a 6-foot-7 forward from New Hampton Prep (N.H.). He's a versatile offensive player who has expanded his game to include more consistent perimeter production. The strength of his game, though, lies in his ability to rebound; Vonleh is one of the best board men in the country. He has a mature body and is only getting better.

Vonleh had five other schools on his list: Syracuse, Ohio State, Connecticut, North Carolina and Georgetown. Syracuse and Ohio State made a strong push for him, while Georgetown was expected to get a visit in the near future.

Indiana had a very solid recruiting class heading into the weekend, but Vonleh brings it to the next level. The Hoosiers now have commitments from Vonleh (No. 8), Troy Williams (No. 46), Stanford Robinson (No. 55), Luke Fischer (No. 13 center), Devin Davis and Collin Hartman. With Jordan Hulls and Christian Watford in their last seasons of eligibility, plus the likely departure of Cody Zeller, coach Tom Crean now has plenty of reinforcements.
