NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Although Luc Richard Mbah a Moute has been recovering from offseason surgery, it hasn't been all bad for him lately. A player found at one of his basketball camps, Joel Embiid, just committed to Kansas. And now Mbah a Moute might have another player on the horizon.

The breakout star of the first day of the National Prep Showcase in New Haven, Conn., was Roger Moute a Bidias, a 6-foot-7 native of Cameroon who plays at Notre Dame Prep (Mass.). He also happens to be Mbah a Moute's younger brother.

“He's a role model,” Moute a Bidias said. “He's accomplished so much. High school level, college level, he tells me what I need to work on every day. It's a good thing to have him.”

Moute a Bidias must have been paying attention. Against Hargrave Military Academy (Va.), he went for 15 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 7-for-12 from the field. He's long and athletic, and is a monster on the backboards. Once he refines his offensive game, he could be a factor at the college level.

It's not surprising that Moute a Bidias isn't extremely effective scoring the basketball just yet. After all, he started playing basketball in 2009.

“This is my first time really playing basketball,” Moute a Bidias said. “When I went to Montverde [Academy, Florida], I didn't get on the court. I feel I've gotten a lot better. I'm still getting game experience.”

On the other hand, Moute a Bidias is already advanced when it comes to rebounding. He has a nose for the ball, and his natural athleticism and length give him an edge over opponents.

“I have a feel for the rebound,” he said. “Every time the ball goes up, I follow it. I just go up and grab it. It's just a natural feel.”

Marquette, Tulsa and Iona are the schools that have reached out to Moute a Bidias so far. He's currently a member of the class of 2013, but there's a good chance he reclassifies to 2014.

“I'm just trying to keep playing and see how the year goes,” Moute a Bidias said. “If the year goes well for me, next year I'll look at schools.”
