Top-40 forward Tyler Roberson announces for Syracuse

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Throughout Tyler Roberson's recruitment, it seemed like Syracuse was the odds-on leader. Late in the game, it looked like a few other teams -- mainly Villanova -- were making up ground, but the Orange still felt optimistic.

On Friday, we found out why: Roberson announced for Jim Boeheim and Syracuse.

Roberson, a 6-foot-7 combo forward, chose Syracuse over Villanova and Kansas.

Ranked No. 37 in the class of 2013, Roberson has developed into a matchup problem for most opponents. He has very good length and athleticism, and he has continued to improve his all-around game. Roberson became a more consistent perimeter shooter during the spring and summer, and he is also able to post up smaller defenders. His ability on the glass is also impressive.

Roberson's commitment pushes Syracuse's class higher in the top 25. They were No. 23 heading into the signing period, led by five-star point guard Tyler Ennis. Roberson gives the Orange another immediate impact prospect to the class. B.J. Johnson, Ron Patterson and Chinoso Obokoh round out the group.
