Terrible Terrapins make fool of certain columnist
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- What a game.
And what a stir-fried idiot I am.
The University of Maryland was dangerous, I said. They were physical. They were scary. They were going to elbow their way into the national championship picture. Blah, blah and blah some more.

What a game by Butler and what a sucker I was for buying into Maryland’s bullcrap.
Yeah, that’s me. The sucker national columnist.
No one expected the Terrapins to pull a Duke and display the mental toughness of hotel chandelier.
The lasting image from Butler’s 62-59 victory will be three-point baskets. A rainbow of threes. A storm of threes. Threes from the corner. Threes from deep. Threes from the stands. Threes while sipping on a diet soda and watching “Barely Legal.”
What does Maryland call that defense anyway? Three for the price of free?
Threes to the right of them, threes to the left, threes from the aft and all the while the Terrapin coaching staff standing there mouths agape, acting as if they had not seen a team shoot three point baskets before.
Butler attempted 26 three-pointers and made just under half of them. A lot of teams try deep shots. What was surprising was how open the Butler players were while taking them. No hand in the face, no body on them, not a sneaker within the same area code.
Sucker.
Gary Williams does not deserve to be fired for this monstrosity, but nevertheless the Terrapin coaching staff did one of the worst jobs of preparing for this game as any group of coaches did in the entire tournament.
