ATLANTA -- Butler coach Todd Lickliter has reached an agreement to become the next coach at Iowa, CBS SportsLine.com learned Monday. A press conference is scheduled for Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. ET.
Lickliter has a 131-61 record in six years at Butler, the latest being the best. The Bulldogs were picked to finish sixth in the Horizon League but just completed a 29-win campaign that featured a trip to the Sweet 16 before losing to Florida. Butler was ranked in the AP Top 25 for 16 consecutive weeks, and it culminated with Lickliter being named the NABC's National Coach of the Year on Monday.
A father of three, Lickliter replaces Steve Alford.
Alford left Iowa last month and is now coaching New Mexico.
Some possible candidates at Butler include athletic director Barry Collier, Illinois assistant Jay Price, Ohio State assistant John Groce and Wichita State assistant Scott Spinelli, who was an assistant to Collier when the current Butler AD was the coach at Nebraska. Spinelli is now at Wichita State.
