Viva Las Vegas, but there's no need to sweat

LAS VEGAS -- The players start rolling into the buffet at the trendy Palms Casino a little after 11 a.m. They grab plates, grab food, then grab a seat at a table next to me, which is when I try to make small talk.

No question, this is my kind of team!

They sleep late, take brunch over breakfast, goof around, then get prepared to destroy some unfortunate opponent.

They are the Pump 'n Run Elite from California.

They are unsure of their next victim.

"I think we're playing the Youth Lion Interpool Something," says Jerime Anderson. "It's something weird."

Not to mention something overmatched.

"I really don't know what they're called," Anderson says. "But I'm pretty sure we're going to blow them out."

Well-rested, and confident, too?

I like these guys. So already it's clear that of the hundreds of summer basketball teams with which I could have spent all day Tuesday, I have chosen the right one, and for three reasons.

1. They don't wake up early.
2. They are lively and funny.
3. They are really, really good.
