Duke soph Zoubek out indefinitely; junior Pocius done after surgery

DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke's Brian Zoubek is out indefinitely after breaking his foot during practice, and Martynas Pocius underwent season-ending ankle surgery Tuesday.

Zoubek likely won't require surgery to repair his broken left foot. He was injured during a workout Monday, one day after the 7-foot-1 sophomore center made his second start of the season during the No. 9 Blue Devils' 81-67 victory against Cornell.

He broke the same foot during a pickup game in July, had surgery two days later and missed 10 weeks.

"This is a setback for Brian and for the team," coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "He worked hard to recover from the injury over the summer and was beginning to solidify his role with the team. We have total confidence that Brian will recover from the injury and return as soon as he is physically able."

Zoubek is averaging 4.3 points and 3.7 rebounds and leads the team with a 59.5 field-goal percentage.

Pocius, a junior reserve, averaged four points and 2.5 rebounds in four games. He originally injured his left ankle while playing in Lithuania over the summer and reinjured it Nov. 25 during a win against Eastern Kentucky.

The guard had a similar surgery on his right ankle after last season.
