Eastern Arizona College terminated basketball coach Tim Parmeter late Thursday, a campus official told CBSSports.com.
The school refused further comment. But a source with knowledge of the situation told CBSSports.com that Parmeter has been accused of having a relationship with a woman who is a current student at Eastern Arizona College and that there is an investigation into whether the woman was of the legal age of consent when the alleged relationship began. The source added that the Thatcher (Ariz.) Police Department is assisting the school.
"All I can say is that there is an open investigation," said Mike McEuen, Eastern Arizona College's chief of campus police.
A Thatcher Police spokesperson declined comment.
Parmeter was brief when reached by phone Friday afternoon.
"I would love to comment," he said. "But I've been told that I can't."
Parmeter was the focus of a recent CBSSports.com story that detailed the deaths of his wife, Paula, and son, Ryan Wrigley Parmeter. Police ruled the incident -- which happened Dec. 29, 2006 -- a murder-suicide initiated by Paula. Tim discovered the bodies in the family's garage.
