Pepperdine hires former coach Asbury out of retirement
Pepperdine has scheduled a Wednesday press conference to announce it has hired Tom Asbury as its new basketball coach, a source told CBSSports.com.
Asbury previously coached at Pepperdine from 1988-94 before leaving for Kansas State. More recently, he was an assistant at Alabama.
But the 62-year-old resigned from Mark Gottfried's staff after last season, meaning he will now come out of retirement to take over the Pepperdine program that has been searching for a coach since Vance Walberg resigned last month.
Pepperdine was 9-17 heading into a home game against Saint Mary's on Monday night.
The Waves have not been to the NCAA Tournament since 2002.
